Burnout

When the alarm system stays on so long that it stops working.

Burnout is not tiredness that a holiday fixes. In the WHO classification (ICD-11) it is not a disease but an occupational phenomenon: exhaustion, mental distance from your job, and reduced professional efficacy, after a long stretch of stress at work. In many people it also shows in the body, in a stress system that stays on alert and comes back to rest more and more slowly. That capacity to come back is what brain training works on.

Does this sound like you?

  • Exhaustion that does not lift after a weekend or a holiday
  • Cynicism or detachment from work you used to care about
  • Your output drops and you notice, which makes it worse
  • Poor sleep, muscle tension, headaches, stomach trouble
  • Irritability you do not recognise in yourself
What is usually done

The first measure, and the one with the best evidence behind it, is changing the conditions that produced it: workload, hours, boundaries. Alongside that, psychotherapy and sometimes treatment for the associated symptoms. Without a change of context, the rest helps less and holds less well.

What we do differently

Brain training will not change your job. What it sets out to do is train the return from alert to a rest state, the one prolonged stress erodes. When that is missing, rest stops restoring anything, and any other change has less to stand on.

How does it compare with brain training?

Have you already had therapy or medication, and the symptoms persist? Brain training acts directly on the imbalances in the brain. Beyond reducing the effects, this method trains the brain's own mechanisms for a real change.

What brain training does in burnout

  • Trains the return to the rest state, not just a momentary drop in tension
  • Includes heart rate variability training (what we call heart-brain coherence), where the effect shows on the graph in real time
  • Vagus nerve stimulation can be added, at the specialist's decision; for burnout it is still a method under research, with no approval for this indication
  • Measurements show whether the system truly rebalances or you simply feel better for a day

The benefits you will notice quickly

  • Sleep that restores you again
  • Less irritability and more measured reactions
  • An easier return to yourself after a hard day
  • Mental clarity and the capacity to finish what you start
  • A stress system that no longer stays switched on all day

What this rests on

Heart rate variability

It is one of the best-documented indicators of autonomic regulation after stress, and it can be tracked from session to session. It is not a diagnostic test for burnout; it is a progress marker.

Over six decades of research

Neurofeedback has been studied for over six decades, but its application to burnout is only beginning: the 2026 systematic review found just six studies, only one of them randomised and none sham-controlled. The results are promising but preliminary. We say so plainly.

How it goes

From the brain scan to personalised brain training.

  1. We identify the exact cause

It all starts with an advanced BrainMap (qEEG) assessment, completely non-invasive and painless. This investigation creates a detailed map of your brain activity and shows us which imbalances sustain the state of exhaustion.

  2. You receive a personalised plan

Based on the results, we build a Brain Training treatment protocol adapted 100% to your own brain pattern. The therapy is non-invasive, with no electrical stimuli, no pain and no side effects.

  3. The brain regulation sessions begin

You take part in guided brain training sessions in which your nervous system is retrained to work in balance. As brain activity settles, the state of exhaustion ease.

Common questions

What if I cannot change anything at work?

Then we say so plainly: results will be smaller and harder to hold. Training helps restore recovery capacity, but it cannot cancel a source that keeps running.

Is it the same as depression?

They are not the same thing, but they overlap a great deal: in a study of more than 1,300 teachers, 86% of those who met burnout criteria also met the criteria for probable depression. Whether these are two distinct entities or one is still debated. That is why the distinction is not made from the BrainMap assessment but through clinical evaluation, with a psychologist or a psychiatrist; if signs of depression appear, we recommend that evaluation first.

How long does the programme take?

Usually a few months of steady work. The first changes, in sleep and in irritability, are normally felt sooner. The programme is one thing and full recovery is another: in clinical burnout, long-term follow-up studies show that some people still have residual symptoms years after the episode. We would rather say that up front.
